Sample Test Notification & Standard Testing Times
Every
Candidate receives a Test Notification prior to their test date and is
instructed to take this Test Notification with them to the test site on the
test day. If a facility has requested
and will be paying for the Test(s), the Test Notification is sent to the
requesting facility who then forwards the Test Notification to the
Candidate. If an individual has
requested and will be paying for the Test(s), the Test Notification is sent
directly to the individual at the address provided on his/her application.
Written Test Times
Written
Tests at Platte Nursing Home begin at 9:00am.
Test Administrators are instructed to arrive at this facility at
8:30am. Candidates are instructed to
arrive between 8:30am and 9:00am.
Written Tests conclude at 10:30am.
Written
Tests at all other facilities begin at 8:30am.
Test Administrators are instructed to arrive at their test site at
8:00am on test day. Candidates are
instructed to arrive between 8:00am and 8:30am. Written Tests conclude at
10:00am.
Written
Tests at Aberdeen Living Center, Beverly Healthcare-Sioux Falls and Southridge
Healthcare-Sioux Falls are scheduled at a location different from the Skill
Test Site. The locations for these
Written Test Sites are printed on each Test Notification Letter. ˝ hour travel time is allotted for Test
Administrators and Candidates to get from the Written Test Site to the Skill
Test Site.

Skill
Tests at Aberdeen Living Center, Beverly Healthcare-Sioux Falls, Southridge
Healthcare-Sioux Falls and Platte Nursing Home are scheduled between 10:30am
and 10:45am. Skill Tests begin between
11:00am and 11:30. Skill Tests continue
through the morning and into the afternoon as scheduled by the Test
Administrator.
Skill
Tests at all other facilities are scheduled between 10:00am and 10:15am. Skill Tests begin between 10:30am and
11:00am. Skill Tests continue through
the morning and into the afternoon as scheduled by the Test Administrator.

For Candidates taking the WRITTEN TEST ONLY or BOTH
WRITTEN & SKILL TESTS:
§ All written tests will begin at 8:30AM. Candidates who arrive late WILL NOT be allowed
to test! Plan to arrive 20 minutes early.
§ All skill tests will be scheduled on
the test date at the test site by the Test Administrator (TA). Candidates must return for his/her
appointment after the written test at the scheduled time. NO PRESCHEDULING prior to the test date
will occur.
For Candidates taking the SKILL
TEST ONLY:
The Test Administrator (TA) will
schedule all skill test appointments.
§ PRESCHEDULING will only
occur if the TA initiates a call to the Candidate's residential phone number
that was provided on his/her application.
In this case the Candidate must arrive at the test site 20 minutes prior
to his/her prescheduled appointment.
§ If the TA chooses not
to preschedule, or if the TA is unable to reach the Candidate, the Candidate
must show up between 10:00AM and 10:15AM to be scheduled
to take the skill test in the time slots immediately following the written
test.
§ Please DO NOT contact the
TA, the Test Site, HEADMASTER or SDHCA to request a prescheduled time.
For ALL CANDIDATES:
§ All
cancellations or reschedules must be requested from HEADMASTER before
noon on the day prior to the test date. A $35.00 charge will be assessed for each cancellation. A $25.00 charge will be assessed for each
reschedule.
§ If poor weather
presents a safety issue for the Candidate, contact HEADMASTER immediately to
reschedule.
§ If a test is
postponed, HEADMASTER and/or SDHCA will contact you.
§ Candidates may
not test if s/he has any type of temporary physical limitation that would
prevent him/her from performing duties as a CNA (examples: Cast, Brace,
Crutches, etc.). Contact HEADMASTER before
noon on the day prior to the test to reschedule.
§ If a Candidate is
on “light duty” at work, s/he will not be allowed to test unless a doctor's
release is presented the day of testing.
§ If appropriate
arrangements are not made with HEADMASTER before noon on the day prior to
the test, the Candidate will be considered a no show and the full fee
for test(s) requested will be assessed.
§ ADA
accommodations must be requested upon submission of the application and
prearranged prior to test date.
§ Candidates should report at least 20
minutes prior to the written test time and/or skill appointment.
§ Candidates must bring THIS LETTER and
ONE FORM OF NON-EXPIRED PHOTO IDENTIFICATION to the test site. Candidate ID
MUST HAVE BOTH his/her photo and signature.
If a Candidate does not have one form of non-expired photo ID, contact
HEADMASTER or the South Dakota Health Care Association for an authorized
Substitute ID Form. Candidates who
forget PHOTO ID will not be allowed to test and will have to reapply for a new
test date.
§ Unsupervised children cannot be
permitted at the test site.
